Just back from a fantastic couple of days with Oli down in Cornwall. Day one in the quarry working on breathing techniques and diving skills (never thought I'd be able to breath hold for 3 minutes), followed by a bountiful day on the south Cornish coast. Highly recommended.Posted on Google![]()

Thank you Oli for all your time and guidance on the 2 day spearfishing course. I had an amazing time , learnt so much , and came back with an understanding of the skill required and what to practice. This is an excellent course for anyone who’s interested in the art , I’d say it definitely helps if you have some prior snorkelling experience or diving experience as being comfortable in the water will allow you to progress quicker. The quarry facilities are fantastic and Oli really gave some thought on where to go to give us some sucesss on day 2 in open water. Thank you JamesPosted on Google![]()

Who This Course Is For
- Certified freedivers (AIDA 2 or equivalent)
- Confident, regular freedivers looking to move into spearfishing
- Those wanting a fast-track route without repeating freediving theory or pool work
If you’re not yet a competent freediver, we recommend completing a freediving course before joining this programme.
What’s Included & Requirements
Your course fee covers all equipment, pool hire, certification fees, and in-water training.
To take part in the Spearfishing for Competent Freedivers – One Day Course, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- Hold AIDA 2 Freediver certification or equivalent
- Be a competent, confident freediver in open water
- Be able to freedive safely without coaching or assistance
- Have prior experience diving in open water conditions
- Be comfortable managing your own equipment in the water
- Be physically fit and confident in the sea
Important:
This course does not include freediving training. If you attend and are unable to freedive competently, please book on for one of our freediving courses or Three-Day Sustainable Spearfishing Course.
Please note: You should be confident swimming around 1 metre underwater and comfortable going below the surface.
If you’re not quite there yet, we recommend getting a few hours of swimming and snorkelling practice before your course so you can feel more relaxed and confident in the water.
Skills You’ll Master
This course uses the spearfishing elements from our longer programmes, without the freediving components. Expect a focused day covering:
- Spearfishing safety and best practice
- Equipment selection and setup
- Entry techniques and in-water positioning
- Ethical and sustainable spearfishing principles
- Target identification and decision-making
- Practical spearfishing sessions in open water
Course Schedule
Bad Weather and Sea Conditions
If sea conditions are not suitable or safe, training will continue at Delphy Pool, where we can work on freediving, safety and spearfishing techniques.
Our aim is to create safe, competent divers, so there is always more to learn and valuable use can still be made of the training day.
In some cases, it may be possible to rebook sea-based training on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. This is strictly at the discretion of Delphy Pool and subject to availability.
Booking & Additional Info
This course is limited to small groups to ensure personalised coaching and maximum safety. All equipment is provided, so you can focus on building skills and enjoying the experience.
This course requires a high level of freediving competence.
If you arrive and are unable to freedive safely and confidently, you will be asked to leave the course, as this would hold back the rest of the group. This is non-negotiable and in place for everyone’s safety.
A minimum of 3 people are required for the course to run.
Bring swimwear, a towel, and warm layers for after dives.
We also recommend old shoes or flip-flops for walking at dive sites.
