Just back from a fantastic couple of days with Oli down in Cornwall. Day one in the quarry working on breathing techniques and diving skills (never thought I'd be able to breath hold for 3 minutes), followed by a bountiful day on the south Cornish coast. Highly recommended.Posted on Google![]()

Thank you Oli for all your time and guidance on the 2 day spearfishing course. I had an amazing time , learnt so much , and came back with an understanding of the skill required and what to practice. This is an excellent course for anyone who’s interested in the art , I’d say it definitely helps if you have some prior snorkelling experience or diving experience as being comfortable in the water will allow you to progress quicker. The quarry facilities are fantastic and Oli really gave some thought on where to go to give us some sucesss on day 2 in open water. Thank you JamesPosted on Google![]()

Price: £450 (equipment included)
Join us at Delphy Pool for an immersive two-day journey into the art of sustainable spearfishing. Designed by National Spearfishing Champion Matt Hill and AIDA Master Instructor Oliver Cacioppo, this course blends freediving fundamentals, practical hunting skills, and hands-on time in the ocean.
Across both days, you’ll gain the knowledge and confidence to source your own fresh seafood in a way that respects the marine environment. With small group sizes, expert coaching, and access to Delphy’s first-class facilities – including hot showers, a dedicated classroom, an onsite cafe, and a wood-fired hot tub and sauna, this is far more than just a course. It’s a complete experience.
What’s Included & Requirements
Your course fee includes all equipment, classroom sessions, and in-water training. You’ll learn in both the pool and open ocean, with all safety gear provided.
- Optional boat dives are available for £35–£45, payable on the day and dependent on weather and tides.
- No previous spearfishing experience is required, but you must be comfortable swimming, wearing a mask, and using a snorkel.
Please note: You should be confident swimming around 1 metre underwater and comfortable going below the surface.
If you’re not quite there yet, we recommend getting a few hours of swimming and snorkelling practice before your course so you can feel more relaxed and confident in the water.
Skills You’ll Master
Over the two days, you will develop a complete skill set for safe and sustainable spearfishing:
Day 1 – Freediving & Buddying
- Freediving theory and breath-hold techniques.
- Equalisation methods and recovery breathing.
- Buddy rescue from depths up to 10 metres.
- Freediving and spearfishing equipment handling.
- Speargun setup, loading, and aiming.
- Dive planning using tides, currents, and sea charts.
- Hunting strategies for different species.
End the day relaxing in our wood-fired hot tub or sauna, sharing stories and building friendships.
Day 2 – The Hunt
- Full day at sea applying your freediving and hunting skills.
- Ethical fish dispatch and cleaning methods.
- Hands-on foraging and spearfishing in Cornwall’s rich marine environment.
Course Schedule
Day One: Morning theory and pool training, followed by open-water skill development. Focus on breath-hold, safety, and spearfishing techniques. Evening relaxation in Delphy’s facilities.
Day Two: Full open-water hunting day, putting theory into practice and refining skills in real-world conditions.
Optional boat dives are available.
Bad Weather and Sea Conditions
If sea conditions are not suitable or safe, training will continue at Delphy Pool, where we can work on freediving, safety and spearfishing techniques.
Our aim is to create safe, competent divers, so there is always more to learn and valuable use can still be made of the training day.
In some cases, it may be possible to rebook sea-based training on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. This is strictly at the discretion of Delphy Pool and subject to availability.
